Just been asked why it matters so much that Channel 4 shouldn’t commission a “comedy” about the great hunger?
Because it’s all in the past, history, surely?
Well.
The current population of Ireland (all of it) is @4.5 million, down from its peak just before the famine of @9.5 million.
And yet history books recount that the population reduced by only somewhere between 2 and 3 million , and asserts this was mostly by diaspora.

Well, as a child of one of those (later) diaspora, I’d like to know why such the gap in historical accounting and the actual figures, why an insistence on asserting they emigrated when even historians say there’s no actual way of know how many died/emigrated/disappeared/ sold as white slaves*.
Who does it benefit, this obfuscation?

Why this continuing dishonesty?

So I ask you, what’s so funny, and why does it matter anyway?

Please sigh the included petition, because until history can be honest, it will never be funny..
